The Deluoode Otaku Oratory (Anime Club)

Hither do the clergymen, physicians, and noble blood amongst us convene, to discourse upon Otaku matters not pertaining to SciADV, such as other visual novels, anime and manga.

The Deluoode Otaku Oratory (Anime Club)

Post by Maypews »

Welcome to the Otaku Oratory, the longest-running site event on Deluoode BBS. The Oratory is a hallowed ground, a chapel fit for only the most diehard of otaku to enter upon, our very own Genshiken. Inside of the chapel we research visual culture to it's fullest extent, gathering around the campfire and studiously watch anime for a few hours every Sunday at 9 PM UTC.

The meetup takes place on Gikopoi, a remake of an old Japanese flash game that features very adorable kaomoji-esque cat characters. The game is primarily a chat room but it also supports screensharing, thus making it quite useful for hosting events like this. We almost always gather in the Campfire room, and if there is a change to this for whatever reason I will mention it in site chat before the stream begins.

Shows that are watched at the Otaku Oratory are user-submitted. The first portion of the process entails nominating shows to watch in the nominations/voting thread. Each user may only nominate one show per week, and if the backlog gets too large I may freeze nominations temporarily. Users will have until 24 hours after the end of last week's Otaku Oratory to nominate shows.

Once the nomination period completes, a voting process will begin via poll. This vote will contain all shows that have been nominated but not yet watched, and whichever show receives the most votes will be watched the ensuing week. Since most of what we watch is OVAs and movies due to time constraints, often times two polls will be held and each will last for at least 2 days. Make sure to get your votes in; you wouldn't want to disappoint Del-chan, would you?

Hello and welcome to our hallowed chapel and place of worship for all things visual culture. In this thread we'll be setting up and organising anime watch nights together. We'll be watching them over Gikopoi.com, it has a nice screen share feature with croppable tabs and what not so that we can chat while we comfortably watch the shows. Obviously I will be the one conducting the streams.

Our inaugural anime viewing will be Battle Programmer Shirase, a short little anime that we should be able to finish in a session or two. In the future I plan to let people vote on what shows we pick, but for now I'd just like to get everything started, garner interest and see who wants to join, and try to figure out how the hell we're going to pick a time/date that works for all of those who are interested. I suppose maybe suggest times in the thread and whatever gets the most reactions wins? Dunno. I would like to start this soon though, ideally sometime within the week. I do notice that we seem to have more activity in the morning (from an EST perspective) on here so maybe something in that range would be good?

Above all else though, lets just enjoy some animu together!

For a time suggestion, I was thinking perhaps something ranging from 3 PM to 9 PM UTC would work? We'd likely host some time on the weekend to increase participation, Saturday seems like the best day. I'm not sure how often we should host sessions, maybe once a week on Sat but watch for 3 or so hours at a time (movie length essentially) so that we're still making legitimate progress would be a good method. Dunno, let me know what y'all think.

I like this idea! I'd definitely be down to join in. Pretty much any time on weekends works for me so long as I'm awake at the time (incredibly variable, I have crippling insomnia)!

Sure why not. I can join on the weekends from around 5 PM - 2 AM UTC, but I doubt I could stay for too long, maybe one hour at a time. It's been a long time since I last watched anime. :Maho:
This is the end, my only friend. The end.

Noted! Yeah maybe my time goal was a bit high lol. Maybe we could go for like an hour on Sat and Sun? Dunno, we'll see when we get there I guess. Regardless glad to hear it. I'd probably prefer later in the timeframe myself, like 8-9 PM UTC probably. If anyone has objections to that let me know!

BPS MY GOAT! I love that show so much, dude. An absolute classic. And on Gikopoi too? Excellent :TearsOfJoy: I could do this on the weekend. I'm free Sundays, but Saturdays it'd have to be before 7PM UTC, maybe 6 if I haven't gotten ready for work yet.

Alright I'm thinking about 5 PM UTC on Saturday would likely be the best time for us to go with. I'll have to adjust my vampiric ass sleep schedule a bit but should be manageable. Is everyone cool with that? :Alright:

Edit: Oh also it'll be in the "Hacker Office" room for anyone wondering about that so that you know where to find us.

Noted regarding the Saturday scheduling consideration. Also cool that you've watched it, it was actually @dokyun who suggested it to me and I'd been meaning to watch it for a while so I figured it'd be a good one to go with!

Just thought I'd bump this back to the top of the recent topics section so that our newfriends can locate the thread. Also to confirm that the event will continue as planned, tomorrow at 5 PM UTC. Hope to see y'all there!

Will be there.

Is anyone else having issues with gikopoi right now? I even have ruffle so that can't be a problem, yet the page wont load for me.

A flowing river of illusion

Seems to be working fine on my end, tried 2 different browsers and both functioned as usual. The user count right now seems rather small though (only 5 online at this time of day?) so maybe it's occurring on a case by case basis.
