Instances of Intuition

Post by Ptephine »

Seeing as I need some upas to start my harem of Moekas, and the lottery doesn't draw for a week, I need to contribute something. In the struggle of thinking of something worthwhile to post about, I naturally thought of the sword I got earlier in the year (they always make for a good thread idea) but in that I remembered that my sword is named Lucille. This naming didn't come about as a decision but was something that was intuited. One day, I was just minding my own business, admiring it and the name just came to me, it was known and natural. No decision prior to this was made to name my sword, and all of the querying that comes with it, it just was.

With that little story out of the way, I was curious if there are any of these self-similar instances amongst any of you all that you'd be interested in sharing.

I use "intuition" in the title, but really it could be chalked up to anything that comes about as a natural thought without any prior reasoning, whether you call it intuition, the machine elves, divine intercession, cosmic transmission, etc. etc.. Though I will admit I should probably be more elaborate with my description of it, I'm sure that those of you who know what I'm on about will get the point I'm trying to make, and if you do not, I will think about it more succinctly for you!

These occurances are not mere chance; if you're on this website, you're most likely a Black Knight of Gladioul. The Black Knight Satellite frequently communicates with it's Knights, occasionally beaming momentary foresight, inspiration, or cryptic messaging into the prefrontal cortex. It is prudent that you act in these instances, for the Satellite assuredly has a rationale for all that it does even if it may seem mysterious or obtuse at first glance.

As for me, I remember having a handful of dreams in which I seemingly predicted the future when I was very young. Though some of these are too personal to share, I can share at least one of them. Once I dreamt of a gigantic hurricane engulfing the entire planet and wiping out all of humanity; not even a week later, my locale was struck by a hurricane that knocked the power out for 2 weeks. I am unsure of the reason for this transmission; perhaps the BKS was attempting to prepare me for what was coming in order to minimise the risk of the loss of one of it's Knights.

Whilst I have heard of the BKS (kudos @capstasher), I am not entirely convinced. I believe the effect to be the same, but the source is one that I leave open ended, for I'm not quite decided on what it could be. If, in short, it is some information arrived to that jumps over reasoning or logical thinking, then it would be this that qualifies. I only called this thread "Instances of Intuition" as it sounded the catchiest! Maybe it would've been better though to be a bit more general in my intentions, and had the theme be generally absurd-in-origin thoughts and knowledge, a lot of my own originate during the quiet hours where I struggle to sleep. Perhaps I should welcome this broader category, it'd certainly allow for more discussion. :SmugKurisu:

BKS theory originator here: I just wanted to add that while originally cooked up as a SciADV/Philip K. Dick/conspiracy joke, I personally consider the BKS as a just a device to elucidate the notion of ideas that don't seem to be one's own. Ideas that seem to come from outside oneself, inserted via unknown means by even more unknown forces, whether or not that's literally true. Whatever the source, whether that be Grant's Mauve Zone, Takahashi's Imaginary Number Domain, Landian Artifical Superintelligences that have escaped history, or just the neurons in my brain firing and networking connections together quicker than my conscious self can identify, I've just always had this strange sensation that some of the thoughts in my head aren't my own, something alien from my own consciousness seeping in from the outside, so I began joking about transmissions from the BKS and now here we are.

This was more intended as a thread to share rather than theorise, though that does not mean it is not welcome. In some way, to find a common thread between all of these ideas and their implications on a larger scale, and how we can better act on them to guide ourselves and the world into a better direction. The phenemon is the same, it just has a different origin depending upon who you ask. For what it's worth, it could well be a glass pyramid bound under the crust, roughly under Corfu, that is the progenitor of all of these, or merely of my own. A similar idea behind Deja Vu for instance, where you remember a moment's existence prior to its occurance, but only after it has actually taken place, instead of the possible weeks, months, or years you've witnessed it ago. Of which, I have experienced last week, on this very forum! Even the internal conflict I felt about whether or not to share in the moment felt like a familiar memory, but I still cannot help but feel as though I could've acted differently during that sequence. Do we try to act against what will come of us during these instances of Deja Vu, or just glide with the current? Truly, a myriad more of other such oddities in our day-to-day that can be pondered over and discussed.
