Hello and welcome to our first ever voting and nominations thread. The way this will work is basically as follows; for the first 24 hours after this thread's posting, users will submit shows that they'd like to watch at the next gathering. Only one show may be submitted per person and it can be in any format so long as it's anime related, whether it's a movie or OVA. Also you have to be actually interested in attending the event in order to submit or vote of course. Once that rough time frame elapses, I will lock the thread and start a poll containing all the submissions which'll run for.. let's say 3 days I guess, that should be enough time. So in total the process'll take 4 days. Whatever gets the most votes wins!
Just to lay out some suggestions, I do worry a bit that people might just vote for whatever they've already seen or recognise. So please, if you haven't seen a show, at least look it up on MyAnimeList or some other DB and read it's synopsis to see if it sounds interesting to you! This is an anime club after all, we must embrace the odd and esoteric.

In future, could we also expand to Japanese films? There is one I would love to watch with you all, but it isn't anime.
As for my nomination this week: Electromagnetic Girlfriend! I watched it a while ago and I remember it being good, but not amazing. Would love to rewatch it with you all.

Seconding this. It's the final thing I have to watch for my unofficial "Anime About Being an Otaku" trilogy (Oreimo, Genshiken, Otaku no Video, with Welcome to the NHK as the NEET DLC).
But in addition, I'm throwing my hat in the ring with Alien 9. I've always wanted to watch it, and it's quite short, so it might be fitting for this!

Otaku no Video sounds good-- I've yet to see it. Also pushing the time back a bit to around 20:00 UTC would be good, getting up early on the weekend sucks (I consider 9:00 early).
As for a suggestion I'll throw in Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. Very comfy show that's not too long.

I agree about the time, I'd like it later too. I suggested basically the same thing in the main thread (except at 8 instead of 9 UTC), but on Sunday instead of Sat to avoid the scheduling conflict we have with one poster. Since Otaku no Video also isn't very long we could potentially watch it and Yokohama together maybe if you guys are filling up to it, lol. That's something I was thinking about too, if an OVA or something shorter wins maybe if there's another OVA/Movie in the submissions we'll put that on too or at least part of it in the case of an OVA, we don't have to watch it all in one session of course.
Nominations have been closed, voting poll has been started. As an aside, I've decided the time for next week (and probably moving forward) will be on Sundays at 9 PM UTC. Don't want to have to reschedule every week and it seems to work for most of us.
Alright, well since it seems clear that Otaku no Video has completely ran away with the vote (5 votes, 0 for any other option) I think I'm going to make an executive decision and go ahead and call it. We will watch ONV next weekend, but I'm going to start another poll for what we should start after we finish it out of the other 3 nominations since it's only an hour and a half long. Make sure to vote in this 2nd poll as well!
Alright guys, I've decided that instead of creating a new thread each time we'll just keep using this one; the replies show the title of the thread at the time they were submitted too which should keep things nice and organised. The nominations period will work as before, 24 hours from now I'll close the vote. For now we're mostly trying to keep things to OVAs and movies of course. My nomination this time around will be Area 88, never seen it before but looks good to me.
Watching Alien 9 this week reminded me of another alien-related anime that is really good: Takopii no Genzai, so that will be my new nomination this week! It is one of the few actually good recent anime in my opinion. A warning in advance: It deals with dark themes like abuse and suicide, so if we want to avoid that, feel free to not put it up for the vote. It should take just over 2 and half hours to watch.
