Currently Airing/Seasonal Anime

Hither do the clergymen, physicians, and noble blood amongst us convene, to discourse upon Otaku matters not pertaining to SciADV, such as other visual novels, anime and manga.

Currently Airing/Seasonal Anime

Post by Maypews »

This will be the general discussion thread for any show that's currently airing. Most anime discussion boards invariably become flooded with threads about all of the latest airing shows; I'd like for this one to stay tried and true to discussion of more obscure and older titles in line with the more retro internet and 00s otaku culture theme that the site tries to go for. With that said, I have nothing against currently airing anime; this is merely just a preventative measure.

In fact, there are actually quite a few titles which are coming out this year that I'm interested in watching as they air. One of these is already broadcasting; so far I've found Oshi no Ko season 3 a blast through it's first 5 episodes, with Episode 4 IMO being better than the much revered Episode 1 of Season 1. The drama is top notch, and in my opinion the character writing is as well. It's nice to see Ruby finally getting some spotlight.

Also of note coming later in 2026 for me are the critically acclaimed "Liar Game" manga's adaptation by Madhouse and the Kaiji director Yuuzou Saitou. Also looking forward to the Needy Girl Overdose anime as I really liked the game, very curious how exactly they'll infuse all of the different endings into the narrative; will have to take some creative liberties from the source I think. You guys watching any new releases?

I'm currently watching Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 2. I'm absolutely obsessed with the story and it even got me into the manga because I couldn't wait to know more. Unfortunately I'm not as big a fan of the manga, and since I now know what's coming up in the anime, I wonder if I kind of "ruined" the experience for myself. :/ I've never consumed an actively developing manga/anime simultaneously so I'm not sure if it's a good idea to read ahead, especially when the manga is not my preferred format. Has anyone else experienced this and would you do it again?

I'm also anticipating Witch Hat Atelier, which airs this April. Opposite to the above, I fell in love with its manga and that's how I learned about the anime. I'm stoked it's gotten popular enough to make an anime out of! I wonder which one I'll end up liking more... Anyone else excited for it?

I usually only read manga that I'm pretty sure aren't gonna get an anime adaptation, so I can't recall ever experiencing what you have with Frieren. Closest is the opposite, where I got into the Chainsaw Man manga pretty much as it was starting up and was kind of disappointed by the anime (though the movie blew me away! especially in theaters!).

I'm also excited for Witch Hat Atelier, though I haven't read it, I've just heard a LOOOOT of good things about it.

I see. Maybe it's like normie books and movies, where people who like one don't typically like the other. :P

Are you planning to read WHA if the anime turns out good? Or if it sucks, would you be willing to give the manga a go?

Maybe! Is that how thing typically work among normies? I genuinely wouldn't know.

Yeah, I'd say I'd be willing to give it a go regardless of if the anime is good or not if I like the essence of the story once I actually watch it. I had a similar experience with Chaos;Head actually, which is what got me into SciADV as a whole. I first watched the anime way back when it was on Netflix in like 2011, and even though the anime notoriously sucks, I could still tell there was some nugget of good in the story I was watching.

So I complained on 4chan's /a/ board and a (not so) kind anon told me to read the VN if I wanted the see the story done well.

Like I said, I hear nothing but good about WHA but I'm also just caught up watching, reading, and playing other stuff rn that it's in my backlog for now.

I've still been trucking ahead with Oshi no Ko S3 and I've got to say, I think I like this one more than S2 (which was already great!) and definitely more than the IMO slightly overrated S1. The murder mystery plot really starts to heat up in this season and Ruby gets some gravely needed character development, the character drama is also in top form and feels a lot more meaningful than ever befoar. Having to wait a whole week for new episodes is pain though, I dunno how you seasonal watchers do it! T_T

Any other Tojima Wants to be a Kamen Rider bros here? Genuinely one of the most hilariously awesome shows to air in recent times, especially if you're a Kamen Rider fan but it's honestly still enjoyable as hell even if you're not. In some ways that probably makes it funnier.

Honestly, being a wageslave makes it easier. The next episode drops before I know it. Sometimes I even end up missing an episode or 2 so I have a backlog on the rare day off that I don't sleep away.

Yes! A fellow Tojima enjoyer! It's so good, I recommend catching up, these latest episodes have been, imo: some of the funniest. At the very least, they're getting crazier in a really good way.

OnK S3 finished up, finale was a 1 hour special and it was pretty great. I'd give the season an 8.5 I think, best of the series so far and probably my favourite anime of the 2020s up to this point. I've heard bad things about later parts of the story though so perhaps not looking forward to that. But anyway now that I've finished greatness it's time to head back to the Fate/Zero coal mines :okayplz:
