Website Updating Thread

Post by Maypews »

Just thought I'd start a thread for people to post about recent updates or additions to their website(s). It's been pretty quiet for me lately, mainly just been adding small amenities to this place. I've got a fairly large article that I am planning on submitting to the Live Wired zine but progress has been glacially slow lately, and I had written a 2,000 word or so Mahoyo review that I wanted to post both on my blog and probably cross-post here in the anime subforum but it got fucking eaten by the blog software and I lost all of it :OsakaHeadache:

Hopefully it's been going a little better for you all lately than it has for me!

Can't wait for that article! Don't worry either, my contributions are also moving at a glacial pace. The Committee is shilling out billions to keep me from exposing their machinations.

RIP your Mahoyo review btw.

Otherwise, I just updated the Schizopunk website a bit, as you've probably seen. Added you to our official aux lab mem directory :salute: and updated the glossary to contain a new(ish) term I cooked up. That's all really. Oh, and I guess I did edit the Invisible College page a bit. I think it fits our vibe a bit better now. Removed the extra emblem on the directory sub-page, since it was redundant.

Finaly got around to making a small update on my personal site now that I've got our forum here into a state that I am pretty happy with. Namely I fixed the issue with the broken pages on my links directory and updated the projects page, as well as made an update post on the site itself and wrote a few blog posts in the meantime. Also added a really nice new Image of the Month

I think I can probably post about my real life a bit now that I'm starting my Japan travelogue on my personal meatspace website (traveling in 2 days, the very early morning of the 2nd of next month), and planning on going to Akihabara and visiting a lot of the Steins;Gate shrines, posting about them on my site and on here.

https://codexderelict.github.io/

One of the articles I'm proud of is the one I wrote about a regex/constraint based Python project I'm working on that analyzes Akkadian nouns. If you're interested in theoretical linguistics, history, the ancient Near East, whatever, I think you might get a kick out of the article.

https://codexderelict.github.io/lmc/akkadianreport.html

I wrote it with the pretext of explaining it to theoretical linguists unfamiliar with the specifics of Semitic grammar, hence the explanations for the state/case system. I have a good number of ideas for articles on the mathematics of human language beyond just work I'd do, e.g. the linguistics of LLMs (massive can of worms), human language on the Chomsky hierarchy, how information theory explains the utility of languages' seemingly unnecessary complexities, things of that nature.

But most of what I know about this is intuitive rather than formal, so I'd like to strengthen my actual knowledge of the vocabulary and mathematical representations of it before I write them. I mention that in my article, as well, and kind of why I'm trying to do a Master's. It irks me how most discussions on language rarely touch on the empirical and theoretical work on why it is the way it is, it's just about the weirdness without the method.

Created an icon on my main page of my site to show whether I'm live or not, so hopefully I shouldn't have to shill here every time I go live!
https://pantsuprophet.xyz

Edit: It sucked and didn't work very well so I removed it. My first and last experiment with vibe coding (I felt dirty having something an AI wrote for me on my site anyway, even if it was just a little icon to say if I was live or not. Trying to create a .php icon now but running into trouble. For now I will continue to post on my forum and in chat here when going live. I get more views that way anyway ^^

While I'm not particularly interested in reading travelogues unless it's something extraordinary, you write well enough to make it decently entertaining so good job, I guess? Some pictures would really liven it up, though.

Little question for you and any other in here: In what measure do you write only for yourself? Would you still do so even if you knew nobody is reading it?

EDIT: American dates... thanks for hurting my brain =)

May seem strange given that I run a forum now but for a long while (first 2-3 years of it's life) my site had very few eyes on it, I'd get like single digit visitors per week according to Goatcounter and most of those were probably close friends. I was perpetually unhappy with how the place looked so I generally didn't draw much attention to myself, but in spite of that I kept writing anyway.

I believe it's a good activity for the mind as before I made my website I barely wrote at all. Once you have a place, it sort of drives you to want to put content of worth and value on it. I think that if you don't use your brain for long periods you start to develop cobwebs in it, don't think it's good for you.

To some extent I believe we all want our thoughts to be seen, otherwise we wouldn't publicise them and would instead write them down in a journal or something. But I also think the importance of that will vary from person to person. Personally I've always done all things relating to my site primarily for myself and I can derive enjoyment out of it as a more solitary hobby, as I believe the value it provides as an outlet to actually make myself do things is invaluable. But it's also really nice to hear from people that enjoy your articles and leave comments and whatnot, that definitely helps motivate me to keep going.

More than I write for other people; I have tons of stuff in the vault I would like to post sometime, though a lot of it kinda sucks.

I'm now running an internet radio broadcasting all my original music! Genre is mostly electronic, house, ambient, etc, but there are other things too. Please come listen when you're bored. Not sure how long I'll keep it running, so we'll see how it goes. :kurikamefumo:
