Deluoode Mascot Brainstorming

Since it was suggested a few times at the latest OO, and also since we have a few artistically capable users here, I've went ahead and made this thread. dokyun has already been drafting a design for our very own Deluoode-tan, but if anyone else wants to throw their hat into the ring they are more than welcome to as well. We're basically trying to come up with a site mascot, one who encapsulates the essence of our site. Even if you're not drawing and just have some ideas or feedback, feel free to share them here!

So here is my culmination of ideas that we threw back and fourth during the watch. Basically everyone agreed on an original character with some noticable SciADV elements, and I brainstormed the rest and checked back for approval. I am not a terrible nor great artist, but I think this portrait gives a good idea of what she could look like. I call her Del-tan.

I'd like to draw (or have someone else draw) her in a few different situations, like coming out of a monitor like in that C;H scan we have as the icon for the steam group, in a lab coat doing the chuunibyou pose, and one of her actually holding her sword. If I make more of her I will probably try it digitally; but I want to leave the rest up to interpretation if you guys like it, like what colour her hair is, or her personality, etc. Enjoy!

Someone, I forget who, threw around the idea of a keytar cyberdeck Di-Sword. Well, if it's gonna be all that i tacked on the idea of it being a gunsword, and came up with this. Might be a bit difficult to understand, let me know if so.

We'll call it Deluoode Future Gadget #1! I kid but seriously, this is a great concept. I do think that having a gun kind of goes against the sort of ethos behind the Di-Swords a bit though. Cause like, a ranged weapon will naturally beat a melee weapon if you keep your distance from it. So even though it might be a hybrid weapon, in a practical combat scenario I bet the gun functionality would be used much more which is a bit sad I think.

Do you think it's possible to keep that computer attachment that we have going on with a proper sword or would that not work? I also kinda like the idea of a divergence meter being implemented somewhere that was floated around yesterday, maybe as like the sword handle/grip?

Good idea. I was actually thinking of something similar, like a Power Glove or the COMP from SMT.

Okay okay this might be a bit chuunibyou but hear me out.. what if we had a power glove with like a divergence meter and a little mini PC on it, but you could have the 5 fingers merge into like a dagger of some kind? And then the dagger could have like 5 separate spikes in reference to the fingers? For reference this is what an actual Nintendo power glove looks like.

Dunno, I think increasingly I do like the power glove idea the most. Seems the most fitting in my estimation. Maybe you could have the black part on here be like a keyboard with a little divergence meter engraved north of the keys in a smaller size than an actual meter, sort of just as like a digital clock almost. Then the part with the blue "Power Glove" engraving could be a little pop up monitor that works like a laptop where it can be opened and closed, like a little CRT laptop.

I also think DQN has a solid overall design concept with the Suzuha Beta braids and honestly the glasses fit pretty well too. Maybe we could put like a FGL pin in her hair, similar to how Chiaki Nanami from Danganronpa has a Galaga one, just an idea. The overall look kinda reminds me of the Radirgy cover (maybe this could be one of the situations that we draw her in?).

Let bro cook. I think it’s a great idea, and one that could combine everything we’ve said here to create a great character. My two cents on the matter is that we should take a little inspiration from how Lain used technology and its aesthetics.

One thing I was thinking about, and I’m actually surprised no one has mentioned. Is that Deluoode-chan should have a keychain on her backpack, either a Gero Froggy or something else entirely. And lastly, if we’re drawing an otaku girl, she needs the good old otaku glasses.

Alright alright, here's my Smithsonian-level edit on how all of this will look. So I feel like this could maybe be a cool design while also actually being practical. My idea is for her to use her left hand to quickly type on the Keyboard, I think that's more ergonomic than having it right under the monitor. The flip CRT monitor is on the part with the blue Power Glove text as I said earlier, can be open and closed just like a laptop. In a combat scenario this could be used to gather data on enemies, or just to browse the internet.

Now people might be wondering why I kept the D-Pad, but I was thinking that could be our mouse. Directional moving to move the mouse around, and if you press down it'll click so you can select things. Alternatively maybe you could try an Atari Joystick with it's one button layout, that might work better as a mouse while also still being suitable for controller gaming on the go. You could also use a mousepad but it wouldn't look as striking imo, but maybe the design is already striking enough who knows. I think the red power light should also stay given how essential it is to the power glove look.

The blade itself should probably be smaller than the other Chaos; ones if we're going this route. Maybe it could literally grow out of the fingers and formulate like a big hand, like this pic below. Of course reach is a big deal in melee combat but I think the data gathering could perhaps help even it out, we could say she's like a great hacker or something like that in the lore. I guess rip to the Guts swordwielding loli idea but I think this is a better design.

It’s a shame that we have to drop the Dragon Slayer D-Sword, since I’m a big fan of Miura’s works. But frankly, this shit looks straight fire. Plus, the fact that she doesn’t have a regular sword will make her stand out more, kind of like Kurusu or Rimi.

The power glove idea is cool: the COMP looks really fuckin' rad, I like the whole cyberdeck angle and maybe having like a headpiece that's wired to it would look neat.

I like this. We could do like hair pins instead of ribbons like I did; I just put them there so there was something and I was referencing Kozue's portrait for the drawing and she has a similar thing.

Hah, that's one of the characters I referenced. If we're gonna figure out what colour her hair should be I think purple would look good, but I'm not married to it. Same with the outfit, right, I just drew her in the Suimei uniform cause it's an easy reference.

Ah yeah, 100%. She'll need a backpack to stuff all her gadgets in anyway. In hindsight I'm surprised I didn't draw her glasses that way, too.

I'm not partial to the huge sword, even if it's funny: if she's supposed to be a super-hacka a magic power glove is more in-character. Like, it could do some Ghost In The Shell type shit with the hand.
