Old Web Graphics
It probably isn't hard to tell from my site, but a hobby of mine is collecting old internet graphics such as avatars, signatures and the like. Dump them in this thread to your heart's content!

Re: Old Web Graphics
Oh, a fellow old net graphics collector? Very nice to see! One of my many projects, which has been shelved for a few years now, is to make the largest possible digital museum of such things. I did have, for a time, the largest 88x31 collection on the whole web! The main issue I ran into was "how do you keep such a large library free of duplicates?" which I have yet to find the answer, short of manual sorting. There are programs which can get rid of identical files, but what do you do if the files are not identical (i.e. one is a png, the other a jpg, or one has slight compression artifacting, or a number of such issues)? The answer always came back as some sort of manner of manual filtering. Past that, we have the issue of metadata. So many of these have been handed down from person to person, the original creator was lost. So many are in foreign languages that you can't even tell what they're supposed to be, lets not even mention dates or anything of the such.
Anyway, all these issues must and will have a solution, likely one I'll stumble upon by accident and which will inspire me to continue the museum project. Either way, when that happens, the museum will seek to cover all sorts of lost image standards of the Internet, like blinkies, stamps, fanlisting buttons, userbars, the various standard ad sizes of the Cyberea Prioris.
Oh, speaking of that, here's something unexpected i discovered nearly a decade ago: Osama Bin Laden's hard drive has TONS of old Internet ads and all sorts of things. It seems all the browser cache is still there for all to see. :GeroSmug:

Those secret messages
That spill into the air
From far away, so far away
A flowing river of illusion
Running with confusion
Never gone, it goes on and on.

Re: Old Web Graphics
Yeah that page is how I first found your site actually! It's really cool. I tend to try to curate mine a little more, usually just picking up graphics that I have a personal affinity for. I've got a folder on my PC that I should really organise sometime, but its just filled with assorted graphics and if I ever find something I like I add to it. Outside of making my own from time to time, I was working on putting my own graphics collection page on my site but so far only thecapstasher wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 2:44 pmOh, a fellow old net graphics collector? Oh yeah I've went through some of Osama's files before too. Funny that you can find things like that in it, you can also download some of the emulator saves of the vidya he was playing in hiding. I downloaded his New Super Mario Bros save and put it in Desmume for the fun of it and it actually worked lmao. I did a cursory glance through those images, apparently he had a map of the Byzantine Empire saved in there.

Re: Old Web Graphics
How about we go with some SciADV themed ones for a change?
E-Cards (I am 100% making a thread on these at some point they're so good)
Some buttons and banners I got from the C;H Japanese site
