Does anyone listen to Susumu Hirasawa? I adore his music, but can never find anyone else who likes him or listens to anything outside of his soundtrack work. :( I've tried the subreddit, but you know how that place is.

Not only do I love Hirasawa, but the song you posted is my favorite song of his! (And one of my all-time favorite songs ever.) I can't listen to it without feeling like I'm having a transcendent experience being at one with all of creation.

I will give a shout out to the album he released under the 核P-MODEL (Kaku P-Model) name, named 回=回 (Kai=Kai). It sounds even more like his solo stuff than other P-Model albums. My favorite track is the closer:



I actually first discovered Hirasawa because I liked a lot of wacky old Japanese new wave music, including P-Model. But I like his solo work the most. The first "taste" of it I got was probably this opener from the P-Model album Perspective. You can really hear his later sound on it, but with more of the clashing sort of punk sound of his earlier music still in the background:

Finally!!! \(^o^)/ I completely agree. With extreme versatility in sound and incredible vocals, his music is like no other. Granting incredible life changing experiences for those willing. My favorite track is Island Door (Paranesian Circle)


I love Berserk. So the 1997 soundtrack was my introduction to Hirasawa. But my first track of his I heard outside of it was Niwashi King! And then Ride the Blue Limbo! Then around the same time I happened to be playing the game RUINER as well. And I noticed his voice in the hub area. It's always cool to see how people find him. (^-^)
I'm extremely familiar with Hirasawa's entire discography. Including Shun, Mandrake, P-MODEL, Kaku P-MODEL, and all of his soundtrack work. I own almost all of it on CD. But the Haldyn Dome box eludes me. And the P-MODEL box set literal is unobtanium.

Kai = Kai is a excellent album! But I really think all of them are tbh. (ᵕ—ᴗ—) MY favorite Kaku album though has to be Vistoron! Then my favorite P-MODEL album has gotta be Electronic Tragedy: Enola. And Paprika's soundtrack! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و
What's your favorite album from each group? And have you listened to Kaku's final album unZIP yet?

I do! I'm not listening to his works as much as I used to do nowadays but I still put him on once in a while and it's always as good as I remembered. Though my favorite album of his is Kyuusai No Gihou because I'm a basic fuck. Siren and ICE-9 come close though, and the same for Phytoelectron. That album was really helpful one time I was really sick and felt like I was gonna pass out sooner or later, even if ICE-9 does the same but better.

I own almost all of it on CD.

I remember finding about Hirasawa rather accidentally, outside of the Berserk song that went viral a few years ago... Being a big lurker of progarchives, I went looking for stuff specifically from Japan, and eventually stumbled upon Mandrake. I think at the time I was looking for what they'd class as "eclectic", but the name stuck out enough for me to have a look. I can't remember my first impressions of it, but they also listed P-MODEL, and their album IN A MODEL ROOM. Frankly, I'd need to have another listen to give anything worthwhile to say about it.

Japan really did breed some of the oddest of musicians, and it makes for some really interesting listening!

I don't listen to him as his style never gelled with me - too soft and "optimistic" sounding, probably - but I really respect his unique vision and the way he goes for it. If you like his goofy yet endearing video clips full of uncanny CGI, you'll love this one by Laibach.

Also, this recommendation may be far fetched, but I think some of you may also like the weird era of BUCK-TICK such as Sexy Stream Liner or Six/Nine.

I have been a big Geesehead ever since listening to Getting Killed, never understood the extreme hate they got for both their music and something The Strokes were doing x100. Their influence-mashing reminds me a lot of Stereolab's in the sense you can clearly see who are they going back to (Television/French chansons, The Velvet Underground and krautrock for both groups, etc.). I hope their next album doesn't disappoint because it's been great to see a fresh breath of air on the mainstream indie scene after the Windmill/post-Brexit avalanche. Though Geordie Greep and Black Midi are both good, at least much more than BCNR. Though I haven't listened to the last Ants From Up There on years so maybe I'll get them now, but their first album wasn't really enticing and even felt lifeless at some parts.

The few tracks I've listened of that Geese album you posted were enjoyable, to be honest. As for the rest of your rant (sorry mate), I'm not into RYMcore enough to have an opinion.
