Old Digibutter Features and Lore

While at first I was keeping all this to the Online Homes thread, after seeing some interest expressed on the topic, I think it deserves its own thread now. See the few posts starting here for an overview on what the site was about.

Rather than linking all the other feature pages here, follow the links on the features page. There was a very elaborate items/shops/HP/MP/lives system that was one of the main draws to the site. Additionally, one thing the features page seems to omit is the user ads system. AFAIK, the main pages of 1.0 showed normal web ads, but on some of the various forums, users could buy user ads to be put into rotation. Sometimes these were used to advertise items users were selling, other times to put out PSAs, sometimes to advertise one's website, but most of the time, just to put up memes or troll. One particularly notorious set of user ads was the George of the Jungle user ads. You can see a video of this here:

One other feature was that the site theme was frequently updated for various seasons and events. I am not aware of all the different themes, but of the ones I know of there were: default, night, summer, snow, space, 4Kids (april fools), Candle Jack, and void. You can check some of these out on the wayback machine.

See the early history page for the various mod plots, april fools events, and glitches like the coin glitch. The first Digibutter April Fools event remains one of my favorite Internet April Fools jokes where Digibutter was made to appear as though it was purchased by 4Kids Entertainment.

Big fan of this post, always love hearing about the history of a site and deeply wish more places documented it all. Even though I love web revival sites and all of that, there's something very special about a place that's survived thick and thin since the true old days and still chugs along to this day. I'd love to become affiliates with such a place, but most of them don't take affiliates anymore... T_T

What do you guys think of me setting up a MediaWiki instance to document site history like the one here? We don't have much yet, but we do have some things.. could be fun I think.

I like this idea, but I think we should wait to have a bit more of a catalogue before doing so

Unless enough other people already have a bunch of stuff on hand to document, I just know that I sure don't
