How will this work?
It's simple, relatively. We suggest manga, we vote on it, and we read it, volume by volume each week, until it's done! Every week, once we read our assigned volume, we put forward a "book report" of sorts talking about what we most liked and disliked about the volume. People who join late can of course submit their thoughts on all the prior volumes posted so far. We should try to read each volume by the Saturday after the vote concluded (or, if it's a series longer than one volume, the Saturday after the latest volume was made available). When the Saturday rolls around, we will try to post our reports and begin discussion amongst ourselves over what we just read!
Unlike the Anime Club, since this is a thing we do in our own time, members are encouraged to discuss the volumes after the Saturday reports for as long as they want! Once we do finish a series, which may take a few weeks (so be patient, These Things Take Time as a song once said), we will initiate a vote for what should be our next one. Due to the nature of the club, I recommend we try to limit our scope somewhat. Try to aim for around 5-6 volumes at most. Certainly, if there is a longer series that many users would like to read we can make adjustments.
Adjustments can also be made in regards to how many volumes we read a week. I propose starting with one a week, as I know users have very varied schedules and this permits the most to join, but if everyone would be comfortable with two or more we can level up to two volumes a week as we gain some XP.
Okay, but how will this ACTUALLY work?
Even simpler. Once a manga has been decided on, I will acquire volumes for each member who partakes in the club, and upload them to A Certain Otaku Webdex (our own soon to be manga loaning service(I know webdex is already a name for a manhwa translation group, I don't care, it's hard to find a good word to fit there and make sense, and I really wanted to make the Toaru reference, so bite me)). Backvolumes will be available there to loan as well for all the series we've read. So don't worry if you've missed a series or a volume and you wish to catch up, it will all be there available for you. Do not worry too much what this means for manga that never received an official translation, I have something worked out and you will see it when ACOW is up, feel free to suggest WHATEVER you would like.
Once you acquire your copy, you will probably know what the best reader for your specific platform of choice is, but if you really have no idea, here's some places to start. For Android, Mihon will likely be your best choice. If you want something more plain, just a reader without all the bells and whistles, CDisplayEx would be a better choice (this is also the recommended choice for Windows users). For Linux, Komikku should work well. Last by not least, iOS users Tachimanga apparently works well for the job (cannot test as I have no iPhone to do it with. Other users can suggest better ones in here viewtopic.php?t=96).
So... what now?
Now we suggest! We start a bit later this week, normally we would start suggesting stuff on Saturday and finish voting by next Saturday, but I did not want to delay this any longer. Only one manga series at the time, so no multiple votes unlike OO. And also, unlike OO, since voting only happens every few weeks or so, I suggest we hold suggestions and votes in here as well. I will read every message on this thread, and mark down suggestions for next vote whenever they occur, so worry not.
Let the suggestions start! We will begin voting on... lets say Thursday? When Saturday rolls around, I will post the link to the library with copies of the winner manga's first volume ready for everyone.
