Too many to count! But I do love visual novels, and some of my other favorites are Subarashiki Hibi, Cross Channel, Ever17 -the out of infinity-, Symphonic Rain, and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (I'm still in the midst of reading that last one, but I'm on the last chapter now!)What's are your favourite pieces of non-SciADV otaku media? (can be other visual novels, anime, manga, jrpgs, etc.)
I was invited by a close friend who is already a member! How'd you find this forum?
I don't like to be fatalistic about it. Does "the internet" at large now suck? Sure, but it's not like we have to be a part of it. There are a lot of worrying trends about censorship and so on, but for the most part we should just carve out our own space and ignore large social media websites. One of the best ways to do that is having a forum like this. I've always loved forums like this and often felt somewhat orphaned without one to call home. I have to support anyone operating a forum. What's your opinion on cyberspace as it is now?
Video games, reading, writing, drawing, studying Japanese, spirituality, cinema, music, and updating my website (in the interest of becoming increasingly more and more self-hosted).What are some of your foremost hobbies?

Steins;gate has always had a special place in my heart, mostly due to the weird and fun friend group that is at the center of the story. I also liked Occultic;Nine, mostly due to the wit of the funny detective guy. I'm still playing CHAOS;HEAD NOaH, and I like it quite a bit mainly due to Takumi and the early 2000s otaku culture shown in the VN. I look forward to getting to the Sena route especially since she had the most interesting things to say so far, atleast from my perspective. Ofc, I also like the science aspects and cultural references in the series. What makes SciADV special to you and what's your favourite entry?
Currently I'm really into Type Moon. I was also into Nisio Isin stuff a while ago. I list more of my interests on my site. What's are your favourite pieces of non-SciADV otaku media? (can be other visual novels, anime, manga, jrpgs, etc.)

The internet? It's mostly slop due to the main mediums of big centralized social media platforms and they're recommendation/popularity based algorithms for displaying content encouraging less than likeable behaviour and content. When people aren't being political or pricks to each other, it's pretty nice. There are lots of nice places and people in the web. This site seems really nice too! What's your opinion on cyberspace as it is now?
I like to listen to music, consoom otaku media, watch video lectures (though i want to read more texts instead), read internet articles. What are some of your foremost hobbies?

I love the Xeno series, especially Xenogears and Xenosaga Episode III, very impressive J-RPGs. Quite bleak. I wish decentralization was still important for most people. I liked finding out about video game trivia and game mods through more outlets than a Bluesky thread and/or a half-private (and likely to be deleted soon) Discord server. I don't really see a problem in the existence of massive social media, their relevance and the way they are used reflect what people currently seek out of the internet. Mass consumption, short-spanned content, "entertainment". Forums like this one fell out of general relevance as more and more normies got access to the web, and that's fine. It becomes a problem when even the pioneers of the Internet are "forced" to use such networks to remain in reach with the new audiences. What's your opinion on cyberspace as it is now?
Reverse engineering of video games is a field I've been getting into reliably for the past 3-4 years, one small step at a time. We were given Assembly and Compiler classes for my CompSci Master's, I use that knowledge as a pillar for the rest. Otherwise, as I mentioned before, I play a lot of rhythm games and try getting good at DDR mostly. Lately I've been 1ccing shmups too, Radiant Silvergun is the one I'd love to conquer the most. I already cleared the Very Easy Arcade mode half a year ago and even got the WR for it on the Steam release. I would like to eventually be able to clear the Story mode as well, and on the Normal difficulty instead.]]>What are some of your foremost hobbies?

Kal was the first person to ever actually look at the site semi-regularly besides myself, even though he never made too many posts. It would be nice to see him check in more often. There are unfortunately a few older users who I invited but nobody really posted besides me at the time that I brought them on, so most of them (understandably) got bored and left after a few posts. It's upsetting cause in a way it feels like a missed opportunity. Maybe one day they'll come backParzival wrote: Sat May 09, 2026 12:41 pmHappy to have been of assistance!
Admittedly, while Cap and I are probably the only ones who actually embody this ethos to any degree (and are actually capable of using more than one website or Discord server)- that's still what the CTRL is all about

I appreciate it bro. To be honest it does take some balls to set up a public-facing site, especially if you've never done it before but you wanna build a community around it even though you don't really know what you're doing, but that's how you actually learn. I figure since I started running my own rodeo over on Fedi almost a year ago now is why I could relate a bit to your experience; you don't have to know everything all at once, and that's why it's /fun/: I probably wouldn't have made my site if I figured I wouldn't learn anything by hacking around on it.Maypews wrote: Thu May 07, 2026 2:25 amTo be honest, I never thought that we'd reach this point. Here's the thing right, I like long drawn out conversations. Creative writing, putting words on the platter, giving my ideas some substance. Where do the kids go to do that these days? Discord? Like hell, man. Most of 'em are so limp-dicked they can't even banter, and they aren't even fun to troll. The answer is probably "not much". I can effortlessly remember my DBZ roleplays on a forum back in 2010, yet I struggle to recall any memories from the many Discord servers I've been in save for one or two exceptions.
Do you know why that is? Because you get to know people on forums. You make friends, you forge bonds, you're apart of something greater and much more tangible. Much of this is caused by the medium itself facilitating longer form and most of all human discourse, as opposed to the addiction and dependency that characterise algorithimic social media platforms.
This is just straight up something that happens everywhere. It's basically a meme on IRC, someone joins a channel, says "hello" and leaves 5 minutes later. I couldn't tell you how many times it's happened on Gikopoi, 9 out of 10 people who show up to chat will never come back. I know it sounds disheartening but the bright side is that there's a 1 out of 10 that will stick around for a while. These are the people that are worth having around.Maypews wrote: Thu May 07, 2026 2:25 amBecause as of now, it is very difficult to start running a forum. Translating the art books seems like a ton of work, depending on the one. I wonder if any art books for vns/anime stuff with serious amounts of text have had fan translations. The A;C thing isn't really an artbook, I've played through it. It's more of a lorebook if anything? "ANONYMOUS;CODE Interactive Digital Artbook: "A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO EARTH SIMULATOR"
You can enjoy the interactive contents of this digital artbook by listening to character voices and BGM as you flip through the pages and zoom into the artwork. "
Nonetheless this one is quite accessible it seems since you can buy it digitially. So if anyone owns it on Steam and would like to contribute it to the collection let me know! Unfortunately though I couldn't find anything for O;9.

I kind of like how frantic the anime is but yeah, it is clear that it should've been longer because by the end there was too much going on too quickly, there was no room for a breather. Some more time to really take in all the reveals, stew in them, and elaborate on them and make us care about everything going on would've been nice.Amlux wrote: Wed May 27, 2026 8:26 pm
Can I make a confession? I didn't really like the Occultic;Nine anime that much. It felt WAAAY too busy and cluttered, like there was way too much from the light novel they had to shove into an anime. But... how can I not love Ryouka's huge melons?

Uhhh hm. At first I was worried this would be 3d slop but it.. actually does look quite 2D. I dunno. Looks decent from the video but I'll need to see for myself before I can come to a conclusion I think. Glad that we've finally got a timeline on the release at least.capstasher wrote: Thu May 07, 2026 2:34 amThe sprites will also be animated, similar to how vtuber Live2D models work, using their "E-Mote" system:

You guys think post-A;C copers may have been right and the new endings and worldlines may have something to do with what happened in Anonymous;Code?

I'm pretty sure the 12th is supposed to be Attractor Field Theory. I remember in the beginning of the story where Kurisu does her podium speech she goes through the different theories, but the 12th hadn't been invented yet.Erin wrote: Thu May 07, 2026 5:07 pmIt's been too long since I played Steins;Gate, did it talk about the 12th theory in the original? It probably did, but it's been a long time.
On the JP site it says, in the story section:
神をも冒涜する12番目の理論
―それは、俺たちが手にした偶然の産物。
The 12th theory which commits sacrilege against god even
― that is the result which we obtained by chance.
I noticed the opening movie puts focus on the other theories too. It shows:
01 Neutron Star Theory
02 Black Hole Theory
03 Light Speed Theory
04 Tachyon Theory
05 Wormhole Theory
06 Exotic Matter Theory
07 Cosmic String Theory
08 Quantum Gravity Theory
09 Cesium Laser Theory
10 Elementary Particle Ring and Laser Theory
11 Dirac Antiparticle Theory
And the 12th theory....
(That's what it says)
Kinda cool, look forward to checking this out.

I only played the original so I wouldn't know, but if it follows the anime script more closely then they probably cut it. That's my main gripe with the show, you know, I liked all of the drawn-out explanations and details from the game.Parzival wrote: Thu May 07, 2026 7:09 pmIsn't that scene removed from the Elite script, and thus Reboot's? Weird to put emphasis on an iconic scene from the original that it seems won't be in this.

I don't understand the point of "pulling back the curtain" if all you do with that is try to make the preceding works of your series (the ones everyone knows and loves) meaningless. This might be a dissenting opinion here, sorry if I sound rude but I just don't like what A;C does at all.
I definitely think some good anime adapations would benefit the series but I don't even know if it's possible with the likes of Chaos;Head/Child. Maybe if they had like 40+ episodes a piece, you might get somewhere, but with things like delusions, routes, and true ends to consider, I just find it basically unfeasible. Maybe if MAGES ever makes an assload of money and can afford to take a loss on it (lmao)

Totally agree with you about Senri. Her appearance should be a surprise that you can only guess if you really pay attention. The fact that she appears in the intro and has the same Di-Sword as Kurusu ruins the surprise.NonoEnjoyer wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 10:10 amFuck I remembered something else. Really, the name itself says it all: a forum was a PUBLIC place of meeting and action, and I see private sites as what should be our real "homes" and where we put projects that are meant to be accessed easily and consistently updated. Forums are great but I still don't think they're the ideal place to host some things like image galleries, lists, wikis, long-form writing, and so on.![]()

Yeah, I get that. A big part of the reason why I like Fedi is just the nature of how it works. I like network effects and watching people hack on stuff and seeing what it does on the network, and I like being dragged into infinitely long hellthreads where we post memes and talk about radios and shit. At least that part of the network, the one filled with hackers and shitposters feels open and free in a way that simply doesn't exist in the same caliber somewhere else anymore, and it's the kind of thing that TPTB are actively trying to kill, so it's worthwhile for that alone.]]>cidoku wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 9:20 amMaybe it's just that don't care about the stuff they post there, usually just tech and politics, and I'm quite exhausted of all of that. Here's something anecdotal, but maybe important to what I'm saying: I've never used twitter. And I don't like the format of twitter either, never got the appeal of it. Granted the time when it was actually a happening thing is a bit before my time, you know, it used to have a chronological feed and APIs and whatnot, and when they got rid of that the smarter few tried to move on to something else (Fedi has all that). But like, calling fedi a "better twitter" is like calling email "better Gmail", is that actually what it is or just mindless branding? Here's something: I don't think normies actually care about the former. All the libtard normies left twitter for bisky because it was branded as the "better Twitter" for those who didn't like the new guy in charge. And like, it's the same fucking thing, there's nothing different about it. They only care about the interface.Amlux wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 5:34 pmI respect the federating of any major service, including Twitter, but a "better" Twitter is still Twitter and is still shittier than any article being hosted on a site or discussion being hosted on a forum or imageboard... in my humble opinion. The software I'm currently developing is an interactive MS DOS based Science Adventure experience, housing references, easter eggs and interactive sections for all things SciADV! From Chaos;Head to Anonymous;Code I want to make something thats not only a love letter to the series but also to the hardware its being built on!So what is it?

I wont give a full list of features right now as I still dont really know everything but I can sum up a few! What is it going to do?

This is the elephant in the room. In the beginning, no. When I had first started making this project I really didnt think it would be anything more than a short little gimmick I could post online and share with the community, but I later realized that the project had started to grow far beyond that, which ultimately led me to scrap everything I had built and rebuilt it from the ground up! So yes! In the future this project will be accessible for anybody to download and run on DOS (emulated) or bare metal! And I hope that it will live up to some of the expectations I have set for the scope of the projectCan anybody download and use it?

Spoofing email headers is actually really easy since mail servers rely on the client to supply them. (This is actually something I've thought of doing IRL since making a message appear to have been sent earlier than it was might have some practical uses: ever been late on a college assignment? And I think I have the skeleton of a "dmail" command somewhere in my emacs.) I'd imagine a hardened mail server would probably junk messages that say they come from 10 years in the future but I think they're normally pretty lenient backwards in time since delays between the time a message is created and when its sent are a real occurence (especially historically, but my old phone company would also take an hour to send a login code, so there's that). And if he's running a mail server on the raspi, which I'd figure he's doing, he can basically do whatever he wants with it. I'm not sure about SMS but I'd figure it's similarly spoofable.]]>Maypews wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 4:16 pmOoh, that's a really cool idea, I second this!capstasher wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 4:14 pmI wonder if there's any way to spoof the date on email or SMS (unsure which one you use).

- What's your favourite character?
I'd say it's either chapter 4 of game 2 or chapter 1 of game 1. I really liked Sayaka and at one point was even writing a fanfiction of like an alternate version of chapter 1, though I haven't worked on it in a while.
- What's your favourite moment/chapter?
I think really just the the over the top nature of it all is what makes it special. There's also a lot of thought put into making the characters more than just archetypes, and I think that's why you see people connect so deeply with them. Chiaki from Danganronpa was the first anime gril I was truly crazy over and she's still pretty high up there for me, but there are really multiple great characters in every entry it seems like. Also the art is fantastic.
- What's the most important aspect of the series to you?
- Do you have any fanart or screencap you want to share?
Danganronpa was kind of what made me start exploring the VN medium more, it was the first one that I truly thought was amazing. I still respect it a lot and it ranks quite highly for me, very special series for me.
- And anything else you want to say related to the series

Eh, I don't think having a minimum length is necessary. Because like, most of us are fairly amateur editors I assume. So the shorter the run time, the more crazy we could probably go with the editing. Not a huge deal but I think having shorter vids is fine and that the bigger concern would be longer ones.Blond wrote: Mon May 18, 2026 9:01 amAfter talking at length with my dakimakura, I finally came up with some rules for the contest:

I don't think I like the idea of someone ceding their entire country to someone else. If you insist then, since it's technically not against the rules I can allow it, but a lot of RISK maps had rules against ceding any territory at all because of people abusing stuff like this. Which I like people being able to cede land for RP reasons, so I'd hate to have to ban or arbitrarily limit it next time we play. How about just ceding Germany and Poland instead for something more realistic? Perhaps a 3 country limit would be best, in-line with the other rule.![]()
